Using your budget to navigate

PlanNordic creates a link between business data and budget and reporting models in your company.

“To take the leading statesman’s part
Is harder far than sneering.
For squinting at a seaman’s chart
Is not the whole of steering
With books on politics at hand
A dolt may criticise,
But judging right our fatherland
Is only for the wise.”

This famous moral conclusion is put forth by Herman, the main character of the comedy ‘The political tinker’ by Ludvig Holberg (1684-1754).

But what does the world of theatre have to do with the business world?

Well, in a business perspective, it is our experience that most executives and boards excel at reading the ‘seaman’s chart’ and setting the course, while few put valid processes in place to ensure that the established benchmarks are continuously updated. They lack budgets or KPIs that serve as a dynamic frame of reference in relation to the overall course (strategy) and help the company’s captain and crew guide the ‘vessel’ safely to its destination.

Today, the art lies not in setting the right course but rather in forecasting or being able to mount a rapid response to the many external events that constantly require us to adjust our steering to stay the course. This can only be achieved by visualizing and understanding the company’s business data and making them available to the company’s budget models, KPI models and other BI solutions.
