Have we left the ship – or are we just getting on board?

As a nation, Denmark is very focused on finding answers to the question of how we should make our living in the future. Certain sceptics have even chosen to rephrase the question, asking how we can make a living in the future – suggesting that the ship has already sailed, and we are left standing on the pier.

As a nation, Denmark is very focused on finding answers to the question of how we should make our living in the future. Certain sceptics have even chosen to rephrase the question, asking how we can make a living in the future – suggesting that the ship has already sailed, and we are left standing on the pier.

Few would disagree that a healthy development and growth rate in both established Danish companies and the up-and-coming talent base, including the gazelle companies, is a crucial condition for a thriving future for all of us.

But whatever we can agree that we should or could base our future livelihood on, the basic condition for growth and development is that companies generate earnings and/or have access to sufficient capital to fund continuous growth.

As a condition for creating a firm foundation for business growth and development, company management has to ensure the implementation of processes and instruments that enable them to see and understand (interpret) patterns and trends in the underlying business data and make sure that these data are accessible to the company’s budget and reporting models, KPI models and other BI solutions.

At the same time, corporate management and executive boards are going to need even greater awareness of the continuous need to improve the company’s basic finance structures, processes, competencies and systems as a basis for making the right decisions on a sound basis.

For without the ability to make good and timely decisions, many companies might find that the pier they are left standing on has become a permanent dock.
